On this page, we’ll want to give you an oversight, how the city siege system in Bounty Bay Online works. After reading the following pages, you’ll know how both attackers and defenders have to prepare for a city siege and how the actual siege works.
Guilds have to bid for the right to siege a city.
Only the guild with the highest bid at the end of the bidding period, receives the right to attack the city they have bid for. Only the guild leader can bid on for the sieging rights and he/she has to use the guild funds to do so. It doesn’t matter how much money the leader or any other members personally have.
Quick facts for bidding on the sieging rights:
After you have won the bidding for the sieging rights on a city, you should get your battle depot ship ready.
You can get the different battle depot ships in the item shop. You can open the item shop by clicking on the scroll type icon in the lower right corner of your interface or by using CTRL + A.
If you click on the “Contact” menu option and then on the $ sign, you can choose from the following types of battle depot ships:
The appearance of the battle depot ship has no influence on the functions of the ship. All ships have the same capabilities and you can choose the different appearances to adapt your ship better to the geographical surroundings of the city you want to attack.
Quick facts for choosing a battle depot ship:
A battle depot ship is the staging area, where the attackers and their allies meet and prepare themselves for the city siege. Only the attacking guild and their allies can access the battle depot ship. As soon as the preparation time has started, the guildmaster can place his battle depot ship on the open sea anywhere close to the city he wants to attack.
The advantage of the battle depot ship is, that attacking players who have been killed in combat, respawn on that ship reasonably close to the besieged city and can reenter the battle from there if they want to.
Another advantage is that all attacking players have a place where they can meet and prepare for the attack. They don’t have to wait on the open sea, where they would use up food for their sailors etc.
Quick facts for battle depot ship capabilities:
Depending on the size and strength of a guild, you may need more people than a guild has members for the siege to be successful. Because of this, a guild leader can invite allied guilds to participate in the city siege. The button to invite members of allied guilds can be found pressing CTRL + A in the contact menu and looks like a small red flag. Just target the player you want to invite, press the button and after both parties confirm the invitation, the member of the allied guild gets the name of the attacking guild as an additional title under his name. A list of all members of other guilds that have been invited to participate in the attack can be displayed by clicking on the “check alliance” button in the same menu.
Quick facts for allied guilds:
All guild members will be informed about the start of the actual battle phase by a message in guild chat. The attackers have to fight their way through the cities offshore first. All members that are still on the battle depot ship when the battle phase starts, have to sail from the ship to the besieged city.
Attackers that are already in the city at the start of the battle phase have to enter the cities offshore scene by using the dock worker in the harbour. The attackers using this option will start further away in the offshore than usual, so that they won’t get fired upon immediately by the cities artillery when they enter the scene. The goal of the attackers should be to reach the shore. Once they have reached the shore, there are different possibilities for what to do next:
You can either go directly to the harbour or you can search for the secret entrances to the city. Those entrances are a little further away from the harbour and can easily be found by pressing the ALT key. The advantage of the secret entrances is, that you can’t be attacked easily by the city artillery. Attackers that are strong enough, can of course also attack and destroy the cities defences directly. If a city is controlled by another guild, that guild together with their allies will try to prevent the attackers from reaching the shore and depending on the military level of the city, the city might have additional npc ships on the defenders side too.
Quick facts for sea battle phase:
If an attacker successfully passes the city offshore, he reaches the shore and the land battle starts. The goal of the land battle is to reach and destroy the cities commanding flag in the middle of the cities fortress. If the player is relatively safe when he enters the shore, there will be more defenders the closer he gets to the commanding flag.
If the city isn’t controlled by a guild, the only defenders will be NPCs from the cities militia. The strength of the defenders will be determined by the military level of the city. It isn’t necessary to kill every defender, as soon as the commanding flag is destroyed, the battle is won and the city is captured.
If the city is controlled by a guild, the members of that guild and their allies can defend the city as well.
If an attacker dies during the battle, he respawns on the battle depot ship and can re-enter the battle if he wants to.
To maximize the chance for victory, players shouldn’t attack the fortress one by one as soon as they reach the shore, but the attack should be coordinated and with as many attackers as possible.
Quick facts for land battle phase:
The primary goal of the attackers is of course to capture the city. To reach that goal, the commanding flag of the city must be destroyed. If the attacking guild is successful in destrying the flag in the designated timeframe, the attackers are victorious and they will then control the city. If the attackers don’t destroy the commanding flag in the designated timeframe, the defenders are victorious.
The length of the siege period varies from city to city, but shouldn’t be shorter than one hour and begins with the start of the actual battle period.
Quick facts for victory and defeat for the attackers:
A victory statue is the best way to show the people who is in power in a certain city. The guild leader can build one victory statue in every city his guild controls. At the moment, you can buy victory statues in the item shop. To access the item shop, click on the scroll icon in the lower right corner of the screen or press CTRL + A. The guild leader can choose which statue he wants to place. The statues differ in appearance but all have the same functions. After the guild leader has bought a statue, it will be placed in his inventory. When he has found a suitable place for the statue, he can place it by right-clicking the statue icon in his inventory. After the statue has been placed, the guild leader can enter a text on the statue by double-clicking it. Every player who clicks on the statue can read this text.
If the city was controlled by another guild previously, it might be possible that there is an old victory statue from the now defeated guild still standing in the city. Members of the guild who controls a city can destroy such statues by targeting and then attacking it. Because statues have quite a lot of hit points, destroying them can take quite a lot of time.
